Proclaimed a reserve by the area’s BaTawana people in 1962, the Moremi Game Reserve is one of Africa’s most beautiful conservation areas. Protecting 3 000 km² of the central and eastern Okavango Delta, Moremi is a stunning montage of lily-covered wetlands, sparkling floodplains, open grassland and dappled forests.

Know where to go: Chobe is informally divided into two main regions: the Chobe River area in the north and the drier Savuti area in the south-central part of the park.
The Chobe River area is best visited from May to October; Savuti at any time, including the summer rainy season. Excellent accommodation is available in both areas though Chobe Game Lodge is the only riverfront accommodation within the park; all Savuti accommodation is located within the park boundaries.

Money & Spending
The national currency of Botswana is the Pula – a regionally strong currency – but the US dollar is widely accepted at lodges and hotels throughout the country. Major hotels have foreign exchange desks and most shops, lodges and travel agencies will accept traveller’s cheques. All major credit cards are accepted at hotels, lodges, shops and restaurants. However, some establishments do not accept payment by Diners or American Express.
Full banking services are only available in Botswana’s major towns, but ATMs are becoming increasingly more common.

May, June and July are bone-dry with cold nights but temperatures rise rapidly as the rainy season approaches. August, September and October offer sensational game viewing but under very hot conditions. If you can handle the heat, this is the best game-viewing time for a Chobe safari.
