Sea and wild life in Tanzania

This itinerary concentrates on the marine and wild life that Zanzibar has to offer. The holiday is the perfect length of one week with two nights in Stone Town (one at the beginning of your trip and one at the end). Five nights are spent at the beach and the emphases of the tours are on the island's magnificent marine heritage plus viewing the Kirk's Red Colobus monkeys. These monkeys are recognized as a distinct species with their different coat patterns, their calls and food habits unlike the related Colobus species on the mainland.
There is a wide variety of birdlife and a huge number of butterflies in the rural areas.
The coral reefs that surround the east coast are rich in marine diversity, and make Zanzibar an ideal location for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Spice and Botanical
Several spices such as cinnamon, cumin, ginger, pepper and cardamom is cultivated in Zanzibar. Their rich fragrance became synonymous with Zanzibar, which is known as the 'Spice Islands.’

NorthCoast

This area has some of the most fantastic beaches and nearby coral reefs which are ideal for diving and snorkelling. The local villagers constructed a turtle sanctuary where injured turtles and other marine animals are nursed back to health before being released back into the Indian Ocean.

SouthCoast

On the south point of the island you will find the Kizimkazi fishing village. This is home to several schools of bottle-nosed dolphins which can often be sighted on a short boat trip from the village. If you are lucky, you may get a chance to swim with these phenomenal creatures.

DAY 1:
With your arrival at Zanzibarairport you will be met by Africa Joy Tours who will transport you safely to your chosen StoneTownhotelfor check-in, dinner and overnight.

DAY 2:
After breakfast, at 9:00am, we leave for our tour of Stone Town. This tour takes you around all the historical cultural, architectural and important places in the town of Zanzibarwith its century of history. It includes a visit to the former slave market site, which now stands as an Anglican church, built in 1871. We also visit the ZanzibarMemorial Museum, House of Wonder that was built in 1883 (Beit-AL-Ajab), old Arab Fort, Palace Museum and end up at the Old Tortoises. The island is flanged by an amazing beach and reef sanctuary. This is an ideal place for your over night stay at your chosen hotel.

DAY 3:
At 09:00am we leave for a Spice and Botanical tour. On this tour you will see and taste the tropical fruits and experience the spice plantations and plots on the island. A variety of plants are used for ornaments, medicines, flowers and fruits. The most interesting flora can be seen during this tour. We visit the Kidichi Bath which was built in 1850 by the first Sultan for his wife Sheharzad, the granddaughter of Fateh Ali Shah of Persia. In the late afternoon we return to Stone Town for dinner and our overnight stay.

DAY 4:
Africa Joy Tours will pick you up from your hotel at 9.00am for your North Coast Tour at the top of Zanzibar. You will enrich yourself with the village culture. We visit the aquarium, the dhow building yard and enjoy sunbathing on unspoilt white sand before returning to Zanzibar town at 5:00pm for dinner and our overnight stay.

DAY 5:
The South Coast Dolphin Tour starts at 8:30am with a trip to the beach to watch the dolphins. This day trip to Kizimkazi provides you with a wonderful opportunity to swim with hundreds of spinner & bottle-nose dolphins playing off the beach & give you a chance to experience a special natural message in the Indian Ocean. At 2:30pm we drive to the Jozani Forest to find the Red Colobus Monkeys and experience the natural and Mangrove forests with living species of fish beneath.

We then proceed to the Breezes Beach Club or Karafuu BeachResort for dinner and our overnight stay.

DAY 6:
This is a full day of relaxation on the beach where you can partake in all the activities that are on offer like snorkelling, diving, kite surfing etc. Or you can simply relax at your hotel.

We dine and overnight at our chosen hotel.

DAY 7:

Take part in the special activities that your hotel will have organised for you or relax on the beach and work on getting a good all over tan, storing some vitamin D which the sun provides free of charge.

DAY 8:
You will be picked up from the Breezes Beach Club or Karafuu Beach Resort by transportation arranged by Africa Joy Tours and transported to the airport for your flight back home.
